HRM for Line Managers

HRM for Line Managers is designed to equip line managers with critical knowledge, skills and abilities in human resource management to manage and lead their people who are the most important assets entrusted to them. In today’s business environment, attracting, recruiting and retaining key talent is very challenging and the perception that this important responsibility rests solely in the hands of human resources is no longer valid.

The change in HR operating and delivery model has shifted responsibility for key activities, such as recruitment, performance management, career development, retention and reward management. Moreover, the trend towards individualization of the employment relationship and performance-based pay has placed new burdens and opportunities in the hands of line managers. Thus, line managers have varying degrees of involvement in HR related activities and it is critical that they understand and operate within best practice and comply with legislation. 

HRM for Line Managers is a two-day HR management course taking the line manager through the complete employee lifecycle from pre-recruitment to post-termination as well as covering key employment legislation affecting the employer-employee relationship.

This course will benefit line managers, first-time managers, junior HR practitioners or HR business partners, supervisors, team leaders and individual contributors who will be assuming people responsibilities in the near future.

• Define human resource management and recognize its main goals, activities, and operating model;
• Effectively plan their workforce, analyze jobs and determine the competencies the business needs to achieve its objectives;

• Plan, manage and assess employee performance; and reward, recognize and retain high performers;
• Identify employee learning and development needs and help them create personal development plans to acquire the competencies required for performance and career success;
• Identify key employee engagement drivers and promote the health and well-being of employees; and
• Acquire and apply a working knowledge of the basic employment law to manage workplace issues with confidence.
